License lookup

Do you need a special license to drive it?

Most states let you drive most RVs on a regular license. A few draw lines at 26,000 lb or 40 feet. Pick a state to see what the original Megawatt tool published.

Where this comes from

The original Megawatt tool published notes for four states: California, Texas, Maryland, and Illinois. Every other state got a default line pointing to USA.gov's motor-vehicle page. We kept it that way rather than guess at 46 more sets of rules.

Laws change and they hinge on details, like whether a weight is the trailer's GVWR or the combined rating. Always check with the DMV before you buy a rig near one of these limits.
