Weight and payload

What's left for gear after the water and the people?

Your weight sticker gives two numbers. Everything you load comes out of the gap between them. Here's where it goes.

The starting numbers are an example, not any real coach. Swap in the GVWR and unloaded weight from the sticker inside a cabinet or door.

Where the weight goes

    How the math works

Payload left = GVWR minus unloaded weight, cargo, people, fresh water, and propane. Water counts at 8.34 lb a gallon, so a 50-gallon tank is 417 lb before anyone packs a cooler.

No coach weight is filled in for you, because this page doesn't have your sticker. Factory numbers also skip dealer add-ons, like a second battery or a generator.

    Better than math

Cross a CAT scale loaded for a trip. It costs a few dollars, takes a few minutes, and tells you the axle weights too, which a payload number can't.
